Cutthroat Bridge, Bamford, Shatton, Offerton, and Hathersage.

I caught the 256 bus from Sheffield and travelled to Cutthroat Bridge, a lay-by on the A57 road. I made my way up to Bamford Edge but had difficulty finding the path because I crossed the brook in the wrong place and ended up having to fight my way through bracken as tall as myself.

I  came down into Bamford , walked through the village and onwards to Shatton from where I made my way over to Hathersage, going via Offerton..

When I arrived at Hathersage I had over an hour to wait for the bus and so I popped in to the Outside Cafe for a pot a tea and a large slice of mixed fruit crumble. I sat inside, there is no outside seating area.

Sykehouse Show

I went with my support worker to Sykehouse Show today, held at a small village  a few miles north of Doncaster.

Carlton in Lindrick, Wallingwells, Woodsetts, South Anston, Kiveton Park, Norwood, Killamarsh, and Halfway

I travelled on the Worksop bus to Carlton in Lindrick today and headed southwest towards Woodsetts.

Unusually, there's a speed limit for horses in Wallingwells.

I continued across some fields and then some lovely heathland as I approached South Anston.

I crossed more fields going over to Kiveton Park; this stretch was a bit boring but I got talking to a local woman for most of the way. I joined the Cuckoo Way south of Kiveton Park and stayed with it until I reached Norwood. I'd planned to pass through the southern end of Rother Valley Country Park but somehow ended up turning to the south and walking down through a very pleasant valley with several stylishly renovated old mill buildings.

I walked along the road for a few yards at Norwood before joining the towpath of the Chesterfield Canal; the canal is abandoned and overgrown along this stretch.  I came out in the northern suburbs of Killamarsh and then walked over the county boundary to the tram terminus at Halfway. I only had to wait four minutes for my journey to Sheffield City Centre.

I walked in four different local authority districts today; Bassetlaw, Rotherham, North East Derbyshire, and the City of Sheffield.

Malin Bridge, Storrs, Hill Top, and Lodge Moor

I caught the train and then the tram to Malin Bridge, just to the west of the shops at Hillsborough. I took a series of footpaths heading out to the west going towards the Peak District, staying north of the River Loxley for the most part.

When I reached Storrs Lane I climbed up through Beacon Wood to the hamlet of Storrs. I'm assuming that the wording in the first photograph refers to the Great Sheffield Flood.

I walked across the fields to the larger hamlet of Hill Top; the ice cream parlour didn't open until eleven o'clock...there's a vending machine, but I didn't indulge myself.

I headed southwest to the A57 trunk road and the path that goes through Wyming Brook Nature Reserve.

I finished the walk by climbing up to the bus terminus at Lodge Moor.

It's been quite a nice walk today, covering some new footpaths; it wasn't my first choice though because the Castleton bus didn't turn up.

Matlock, Bonsall, Wensley, South Darley, and Oker

I travelled to Matlock, getting off the bus at Hall Leys Park. I went to the toilets there, walked over the bridge and joined the Limestone Way at the back of the railway station.

I stayed on the Limestone Way for nearly two miles until I reached a path that took me to the northern part of Bonsall. I continued across the fields to  Wensley.

I then entered South Darley at the top of the hill near the church and then took the steep concessionary footpath that goes up to the summit of Oker Hill: it's a lovely ridge walk for a few minutes on the higher ground. I came down to Oker where I joined the Derwent Valley Heritage Way and returned to Matlock.
