Cutthroat Bridge, Ringinglow, and Sheffield City Centre

I travelled to Cutthroat Bridge today on the 257 bus, getting there at 08:30 for an early start. I immediately climbed up to Bamford Edge to enjoy the views looking down at Ladybower Reservoir. At the entrance to the Access Land I stopped to read this notice; it seemed to have been there a while though and I assumed the moors had already been sprayed...and that was correct.

It took me about forty five minutes to reach the Edge.

Just after taking the photograph above I changed direction and walked across the moor, heading for Stanage Edge - the aroma of the heather was gorgeous, although it wasn't looking its best in the murky weather.

I walked along the top of Stanage Edge from north to south, and at Upper Burbage Bridge continued along the road to Ringinglow.

There was a steep descent into the Porter Valley at Ringinglow and I followed the valley down to Endcliffe Park and finally the City Centre.

Baslow, Longshaw Estate, Fox House, and Totley

I travelled to Baslow today; the Bakewell bus was the first service leaving for the Peak District when I arrived at Sheffield Interchange. I got off at Nether End and walked up the hill to reach the moors. I headed north along Baslow Edge, and then, Froggatt Edge, and Curbar Edge.

To the south of Longshaw Estate I found a path I'd not used before, it was quite overgrown with bracken though. It cut across Access Land and so wasn't shown on the map.

The new cafe, outdoor seating area and toilets at Longshaw are very nice; the area was quite busy and so I didn't take any photographs. The views were still available though.

There was over an hour to wait for the bus at Fox House and so I continued with the walk, going down through the woods at the Blacka Moor Nature Reserve and caught the bus on the main road at Totley. It started raining just before three o'clock when I was on the bus travelling to Sheffield city centre - the forecast was for the rain to start anytime after one o'clock.

Snake Inn, Hope, and Brough

I had planned to travel on the train today to Sheffield for the first time in sixteen months since the start of the covid lockdown last year, but when I got to the railway station the early train had been cancelled and so I had to catch the bus instead, which takes nearly twice as long to get there. Fortunately I was able catch the train on my way back home though.

There's a new bus service operating for this summer which goes over the Snake Pass to Manchester and so I thought I'd use it to travel to the Snake Inn and walk back to Hope and catch the bus back to Sheffield from there.

It looks like the Snake Pass Inn is being converted into flats, it certainly wasn't open. I needed to head a bit further up the pass to just before the parking area about half a mile away to the northwest; it's safe though because there's a path at the side of the road or a wide grass verge all the way.

After walking up through some woodland I soon reached open moorland. The path stayed parallel to, and a few hundred yards to the north of the road, until I reached Alport Bridge.

After crossing the road  I'd completed the part of the walk using footpaths I'd not walked along before. The rest of the way back to Hope was familiar to me.

I arrived at Hope and it was fifty minutes for the next bus going to Sheffield so I popped into one of the shops and managed to pick up some tasty bargains, two portions of carrot and parsnip mash for 40p each.  There was still plenty of time to spare and so I set off walking down the road heading east and caught the bus at the stop after Brough

The mist and the occasional drizzle spoiled things a bit, but it was nice to be exploring new territory and it was a very satisfying walk after such a long break.
