Beverley And Drewton Farm Shop

Another trip out with my support worker today. I saw my first snow of the winter as we drove over The Wolds, but it was mainly sunny in Beverley. My legs are much improved, I only wore the minimum amount of strapping, but am still struggling with climbing stairs though.

We struggled to find a pub where we could have lunch and so went to the cafe at Brown's department store. I had fish and chips, which was okay, but the seats were very uncomfortable.

Later on I bought a game pie from a butcher's shop.

On the way back home we called in at Drewton Farm shop for tea and cake at the cafe - I bought a couple of things for later at the shop. 

There's a decent view of The Wolds  from the car park.

Another run out in the car with my support worker to Beverley; we chose there because we had to head northeast to keep ahead of the oncoming rain for as long as possible. Although it was quite cloudy, it did stay dry until about 1:30 by which time we were ready to set off for home.

We went inside St. Mary's church, we much prefer it to the minster. There were some interesting things inside to look at.

We went inside Wetherspoon's pub for a drink, a sit down, and to get warm right next to a roaring log fire...the photograph came out a bit dark though.

I noticed that several of the shops, pubs, and cafes were taking measures to reduce the size of their heating bills.

On the way back we called at Drewton Farm Shop cafe; we both ordered the dark chocolate cake served with soft fruits and viola flowers. It looked, and tasted great...I forgot to take a photograph - I did take a photograph of the Yorkshire Wolds countryside from the carpark though.

 

Beverley Festival Of Christmas 2018

A lovely sunny day visiting one of my favourite towns. A large impressive parish church, a minster, many dozens of market stalls, live street music everywhere, the smell of food everywhere as well...but too many people - I found it quite claustrophobic and threatening at times.

Our visit got off to a good start with free parking for the day.

After having a quick look at some of the stalls which were already trading we went into Wetherspoon's pub for breakfast - it was already quite busy.

St. Mary's Church was holding a craft fair; it was busy inside which restricted my angles and positions but I still got a few decent photographs of the interior.

There were a lot of people wearing steampunk costumes in Beverley today...and a St. Bernard's dog group was collecting money for charity.

It cost £3 to go inside the minster to look at the Christmas Tree Festival, and there was a long queue to get in...so we didn't bother.

The crowds were too much for us by one o'clock and so we headed back to the car park; I'd already spent quite a bit of money though on a mixed game pie from the market, a couple of nice jumpers and an almost new pair of hiking boots from the charity shops...and a large fat rascal from a bakery.

We called back at the farm shop cafe at Drewton at the foot of The Wolds for tea and cake - I managed to grab a photograph of the farm cat as it ran away from me.
