Marr, High Melton, and Butterbusk

The local weather forecast was significantly better than for the Peak District but it still ended up being cold, damp, windy, and miserable for most of the time.

I caught the X19 Barnsley bus to Marr and took the footpath that goes through Melton Wood to High Melton. I then walked down across the fields to Denaby Ings Nature Reserve; I considered doing a circuit of the reserve but it looked overgrown and I didn't fancy getting my clothing wet. I then crossed over the bridge to join the TransPennine Trail and finished the walk at Butterbusk, to the east of Conisbrough.

Two buses passed going to Doncaster as I struggled to cross the busy road at Butterbusk; I only had to wait ten minutes for the next one though.

Baslow, Chatsworth Park, Calton Lees, and Edensor.

My first walk in the Peak District for nearly ten months since I injured my legs, a nice flat easy walk in Chatsworth Park. I travelled on the Bakewell bus to Baslow Nether End and explored Chatsworth Park, Calton Lees and the village of Edensor.

I managed to capture the open-topped tourist bus as it went over the bridge, this service has been newly introduced as a trial for the summer.

When I reached Calton Lees I was hoping to sit down on a seat, I was convinced I'd remembered there being one, but I was mistaken and so I sat on a small area of grass and relaxed and rested for a few minutes.

Edensor is a stunningly beautiful village; I noticed the posters and banners advertising the village Open Gardens and gala on June 15th - I'm planning to go this year if the weather's nice.

I had originally intended to return to Baslow to finish the walk and treat myself to some ice cream but my legs were starting to ache, not hurt though, so I decided to call it a day and caught the bus back to Sheffield from Edensor.

Marr, Sprotbrough, and Warmsworth

I caught the Barnsley bus and travelled for five miles to Marr where I immediately located the footpath and walked across the fields to Sprotbrough.

At Sprotbrough I went down into the Don Gorge and spent a bit of time there, even having an icecream. I finished the walk by going up through the woods and then along the path to the housing estate at Warmsworth and caught the bus back to town on the main road.

The weather was a bit disappointing today, rather cool and cloudy, and also muggy. I did get out of the house for a few hours though and stretched my legs.

Tickhill, Stainton, and Wadworth

I caught the Worksop bus to Tickhill again and walked over to Stainton this time; it's a lovely walk and Stainton is a pretty village. On the return loop back to Wadworth I had walk along a couple of stretches of road though.

It looks there's just been, or is soon going to be, a scarecrow festival at Tickhill...these were the only ones I saw .

Tickhill is a lovely small market town but I didn't go exploring, I did that a few weeks ago. I went straighht to the church and out to the west, over the fields to Stainton.

I just missed the 12:10 bus from Wadworth going to Doncaster and so had to catch the 12:40, it gave me time to pop in the shop and get a chilled drink and then go up to the church to take some photos.

My legs were fine today but my hip was quite painful at times.
