Alport, Monyash, Magpie Mine, and Bakewell

I travelled to Bakewell and caught the local bus to Alport, it's only four or five miles. I walked along the entire length of Lathkill Dale to Monyash: they've been felling trees because of ash dieback.

I spent a few minutes exploring Monyash - here's some information about the toads featured in the first photograph.  Toad Patrol

I then headed north, and then east, going across the fields to Magpie Mine and then continued walking in an easterly direction back to Bakewell...there were a lot of stiles to climb over.

Visiting Horncastle and Woodhall Spa

I had a lovely day out in the sunshine today going to Horncastle and Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire with my support worker, two places I'd not previously visited.

These photographs were taken at an 'antiques emporium.' There's another one in the town that's not quite so cluttered.

This de-commissioned church is now also an antiques centre.

We completed our day out by driving the six miles to Woodhall Spa, a pretty Edwardian spa town. We had tea and cakes in some RAF themed tea rooms; we were served very generous portions.

Bamford to Surprise View

The walk didn't get off to a good start; my first footpath was closed and blocked off and so I had to find another way out of Bamford.

The diversion meant I did get to go past this house though.

There were 110 steps to go down and then a steep climb up a sunken lane as I headed towards Hathersage; I didn't visit Hathersage today though.

A cyclist was struggling to overtake me as I was walking up a hill heading for Higger Tor. Further on he was taking a breather on a seat and I stopped for chat for a few minutes. He told me he was editing a film for a rather demanding client and just needed to get away from the task for a few hours.

After exploring Higger Tor I found a path that goes around the back of Carl Wark and down to the car park at Surprise View, where there's a bus stop.

Towards the end of the walk I noticed this small metal plate screwed to the top of a gatepost.

It was only a short walk today, the weather was disappointing and my feet were hurting me a bit.

Middleton-by-Youlgreave, Elton, Birchover, and Stanton in Peak

I caught the bus from Sheffield to Bakewell, and then the local bus out to Middleton-by-Youlgreave. I headed across the fields in the direction of Birchover but the two paths I could have used were both flooded and so I had to loop round to Elton, using the road for part of the way.

I walked through the village and then headed north to Birchover.

Just before reaching Birchover I spent a few minutes exploring Rowtor Rocks.

I then crossed Stanton Moor and walked down the road for a few hundred yards until I arrived at Stanton in Peak.

It was a gentle downhill walk to the Matlock to Bakewell road and I caught the bus into Bakewell at a location called Picory Corner.
