My second visit of the summer with Siobhan to an Open Gardens event, today it's been Middleton-by-Wirksworth, a few miles south of Matlock. According to the map we were given there were forty three gardens to visit - I estimate we got round thirty five of them...well, I did - the steps were too steep for Siobhan at a couple of them.
The church was near to the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust building where we parked the car; we went in to check that they'd be serving tea and cakes later.
This deep mineshaft, capped with glass and now inside a building made out of bales of straw was only opened to the public last week.
There were still more gardens and courtyards to explore...
...and there were still plenty of cakes left for us at the church when we passed it again.
The three most unusual things I saw today were the building made out of straw, a small boules court with a scoreboard and a seating area...and this garden inside a telephone box - also with a seating area if you move the tubs out of the way.
Great pics. Thanks for visiting.
