Bamford, Thornhill, Brough, Shatton, and Hathersage

I got off the bus at Bamford Station and walked over to Thornhill and then cut across the fields down to the main Hope Valley road which I had to walk along for nearly a mile until I reached Brough; fortunately there's a causeway.

I then climbed up to a track which then becomes a narrow lane called Townfield Lane, now heading east towards Shatton. I joined the Derwent Valley Heritage Way at Shatton, following the river down to the hamlet of Leadmill and then finishing the walk at neighbouring Hathersage.

(There were a couple of ostriches in a field at Shatton)

Conisbrough, Sprotbrough, and Warmsworth

I stayed in my local area for my walk today, with it being Easter Sunday I'm not sure about the bus services in the Peak District. I travelled to Conisbrough, made my way down into the Don Gorge and walked back towards Doncaster, catching a bus into town at Warmsworth.

(Only distant shots of Conisbrough Castle today.)

I kept as close as I could to the river, exploring some new areas...and getting some good views of Conisbrough Viaduct.

Just before reaching Sprotbrough I was nearly tripped up by a group of miniature radio controlled model Landrovers out on safari.

Elsecar, Wentworth, and Greasbrough

A walk to one of my favourite local villages today, Wentworth, about a dozen miles away. It's not easy to get there using public transport though; I needed to catch a train to Meadowhall and then another to the neighbouring village of Elsecar.

I walked downhill from Elsecar Station to the Heritage Centre before going across the fields, and back uphill, to Wentworth where I explored all the nooks and crannies before continuing through the gun park to Greasbrough to catch a bus into Rotherham.

Parts of the Heritage Centre were closed and blocked off and there was a lot of scaffolding.

The route I took up to Wentworth took me past the Needle's Eye folly.

Wentworth is a very pretty village.
